Update May 2022: The fourth-medal-received mystery: Grandad’s fourth medal was/is the “War Medal 1939-1945”. I’ve included a sample. But I have yet to see it in front of my eyes and get a photograph of it. Working on it! Still to be located.

“Happy you’re undertaking this project. The merchants marines played a decisive role in the Allied victory. I know Nana was greatly upset he wasn’t recognized by the Canadian or British governments as a veteran, despite the critical role in the war effort and the dangers of U-boat attacks.
